Individual counseling is a place where people can come to talk openly about any kind of issues they are having in their life because it is strictly confidential. People can feel free to be who they are without any kind of judgment or bias of any sort. This is where a person can be validated and understood towards their problems and/or challenges they are facing in their everyday lives and is outside of the circle of family and friends. It is essential during individual counseling that the therapist and client build a therapeutic alliance; this is when the therapist will work on building rapport and trust with the client so self expression can flourish and individuals can feel safe to talk openly with the counselor without reservation.
Individual counseling, also known as psychotherapy, is offered during these personal sessions. If a person is feeling anxiety ridden, depressed, having relationship trouble, parenting problems, and/or feeling symptoms that root from mental health disorders, these challenges can be worked through at the client’s pace. These problems will be assessed and addressed while the client plays a significant role in the process. This is a cash based agency so the client is free to choose if they want to receive a diagnosis if there is a mental health disorder contributing to their symptoms.
During individual therapy sessions; people can express their beliefs, feelings and thoughts while working through past and present challenges that may be contributing to unwanted behavior. The client can share painful memories, express areas in their lives they would like to change; develop personal growth, get in touch with who they truly are and/or may want to develop coping skills while creating and working towards long and short time goals they want to achieve during therapy.
